Transformers (1986) review

Transformers-movieposter-west

Even though I am a cartoon addict (well not addict, but I have seen way too many to be considered a “normal” viewer) and having seen Transformers as a youngster, I never saw the actual Transformer movie.

We started rewatching the transformers series (all ordered from Ebay) and when season 2 was finished we popped in the movie (also from Ebay).

Now the fact that te movie takes place in 2005 is hilarious, as its already a decade past that date and there are still no transformers in our world….(actually its not hilarious, its sad… boring world).

The movie is a complete bundle of sadness in itself. I do not mean that as the movie is bad, on the contrary the movie is great! But almost all the autobots die. ALMOST ALL OF THEM! Even Optimus Prime bites the dust. I can I enjoy this film when not one of my favourite autobot makes it out alive.

Not even the Decepticons are safe from death, some of the most interesting Decepticons manage to be written off of the show.

Optimus Prime chooses Ultra Magnus as the new leader, but unfortunately he dies….(not forever thank goodness!). Hotrod ultimately is the one who gets and keeps the Matrix therefore becoming Rodimus Prime. (I preferred Ultra Magnus over Rodimus Prime because well…honestly, Hotrod is still just a damn teenager on the inside).

The movie has everything a good movie should have (cartoon movie should have). Good music, great voice acting, a solid story and it makes you feel a thousand feelings (or at least leave you with a good feeling).

Downsides of this movie:

  • All the autobots die (almost all)
  • Blurr doesn’t die (I just don’t really like that fast talking auto bot)
  • Starscream dies
  • Megatron becomes even more annoying than he already was

Upside of this movie:

  • Great voice acting
  • Leonard Nimoy
  • Ultra Magnus
  • The music

Just a short review regarding the Transformer movie from 1986. If you enjoyed the Transformer series as a child (or adult) and you haven’t seen the movie, go watch it! It is definitely worth it!

  1. Dit is op Raistlin0903 herblogden reageerde:
We all know what it’s like: you start a new blog, and are trying to get your bearings and ofcourse people trying to read your stuff. Today I wanted to share a post from a friend of mine who has just started blogging. And seeing as it is a review from one of my favorite cartoon movies (Transformers), and it’s in keeping with this whole nostalgic vibe I seem to have going, I thought I would share this with you all. Feel free to look around at her site, she has a great review for a series of graphic novels that I had never heard about, but that sound truly interesting. And ofcourse if you like her stuff, please subscribe 😀

  3. Great review!

One of my favourite films, even as an adult and I’m old enough that I saw it in the cinema as a child on release!

Optimus Prime dying is so sad, especially when his colour fades to grey! A heartbreaking moment for a generation.

  4. Hello, I found my way to your site via Raistlin0903. This is one of my favourite movies of all time. I think it was the second thing I saw at the cinema as a kid (the first being Spider-Man). I love the galaxy spanning adventure. I love the common foe, Unicron though I found the Quintessons more interesting. It was a pitty about the deaths of so many of the Original Characters. Unfortunately that is as a result of the fact the cartoon was made to sell toys and those toys were no longer available. If it is any consolation, one of the things you didn’t like is corrected in series three (someone that died comes back. In fact a couple do.) If you do x wing reviews, be sure to tweet them with appropriate hashtags. Twitter goes nuts for star wars (I do unboxings of Star Wars Armada, the fleet game rather than the fighter game over on my blog. I hope you’ll stop by)

  5. Ahhhh…. Nostalgia! Definitely a crazy movie. Good times. I miss the REAL transformers… Not this Michael Bay crap. Sorry. Have a TINY chip on my shoulder against Michael Bay for ruining my childhood. Lol! Thanks for the review and the memories! (and thanks for putting! Leonard Nimoy as an upside!! SO TRUE!! 💖💖
